Life and Cousins

So I'm back in touch with 2 of 5 cousins, and I'm just absolutely riding the high of it right now, while we make plans for one of their birthday. 

It took me so many years, but I finally have family of my own that want me around. People who knew me when I was basically in diapers and they actually want me around. My heart could not be more full.

Life and... Parenting?!

So, we got the call.  A child in my family will likely be taken by CPS in coming days. The hope is that the child will ultimately end up in our care, hopefully sooner than later.  I want to go Taz on the whole house and clean everything and have it perfect for when kiddo gets here, but there's no certainties here, even though I would get in my truck right this second and go pick them up. I wish they had their own cell phone, I wish I could call them and make sure they're safe right this minute. I love you, kiddo, and you're forever in my heart, no matter what happens. I will do whatever it takes to protect you from her.

Life, And Make It Smooth

The last few weeks have been absolutely wild, and I'm super grateful.  I'm pretty sure our delivery drivers are about done with us after the 13 (I think) packages we received today. Definitely need to set up one of those "take a drink and a snack" stands at this point.  We did get some sad news today. We're ready to close on our first home, after some minor repairs, and today we got a call from our agent- the seller passed away. This feels heartbreaking in a way I couldn't have anticipated. We never met her. She built this home, and was one of the first in the neighborhood to do so. Two of our neighbors consider her a friend.  We have been assured that she made it very clear that she wants us to have this home. I can't even process that statement. I have multiple first degree relatives who wouldn't have put forward that much effort on my behalf, but someone who has never met me has instructed her next of kin that this house is meant for us.  I got my w...

Life and A Stable Relationship?!

I have had 3 relationships in my life that lasted greater than a year, with many, many much shorter relationships in between. My first long-term partner was amazing, at the time, and we maintained a friendship for a decade after our breakup. Despite the truly amazing quality of that relationship, I was never high on anyone's list of most likely to be happily married.  My current relationship is coming up on nine years. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I would be someone who would get this kind of relationship. We are absolutely built on the foundation of a friendship, though we've vascilated between being mostly romantic and mostly platonic as long as we've known one another, and I don't think it would've worked out any other way.  When one of us is sick, or injured, or just going through something difficult, that friendship we have is what saves us, and I'm so, so grateful for it.  Our relationship has survived things that most relationships can...
